Ford displays Mad Max Interceptor models at motor show

Mad Max 4 has yet to begin shooting, but anticipation for the film has reached a new level with Ford showcasing clay concept models of Mad Max's Interceptor at the Australian International Motor Show.

Earlier this year, TopGear Australia magazine challenged Ford to design a 21st century version of Mad Max's iconic vehicle. Two designs, by Nima Nourian and Simon Brook respectively, were selected to demonstrate what Max Rockatansky's might look like more than thirty years after the original film.

The clay models on display at the motor show in Melbourne are a quarter of the size of a standard car and weigh approximately 130kg.

"The team has been able to get quite creative because the Mad Max car is not constrained by the normal design parameters imposed by a real-world vehicle," said Design director, Chris Svensson in a statement.

The initiative has received a strong following through social media, with almost 10,000 fans from around the world voting for their favourite design. There is hope – and unconfirmed talk – that one of the models may appear in the actual film.

George Miller's Mad Max 4: Fury Road is expected to start filming next month. The model Interceptors will be on show in Melbourne until July 10.
