Foxtel announces airdates for Deadline Gallipoli

Foxtel today announced the Australian production Deadline Gallipoli will have its world premiere over two nights next month – Sunday April 19 and Monday April 20, at 8.30pm EST, on showcase.

Sam Worthington leads an all-star international and local cast, including Hugh Dancy, Charles Dance, Rachel Griffiths, Bryan Brown, Ewen Leslie, Anna Torv, Jessica de Gouw, and in his first major role recent NIDA graduate Joel Jackson.

The powerful mini-series offers a fresh take on the Gallipoli legend, exploring its origin from the point of view of four war correspondents – Phillip Schuler played by Sam Worthington; Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett played by Hugh Dancy; Charles Bean played by Joel Jackson; and Keith Murdoch played by Ewen Leslie.

Sent to cover the campaign, the four men witnessed the extraordinary events that unfolded on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915.

The first truly embedded war correspondents, their defiance against military leaders ignited a change in the course of the campaign. Their commitment to the soldiers on the frontline turned the war from a strategic failure into a triumph of the human spirit.

Worthington said today: “The thing that intrigued me about Deadline Gallipoli was that it’s a fresh take on an old idea. By looking at the campaign through the eyes of the four war correspondents, we could reflect new light on a part of history that helped define us – and one that we can still learn from.”

Directed by Michael Rymer (Hannibal, Battlestar Galactica), Deadline Gallipoli was written by four of Australia’s most exciting writers, Jacquelin Perske, Shaun Grant, Stuart Beattie and Cate Shortland.

Filmed in South Australia late last year, it was produced by Penny Chapman (Matchbox Pictures), Jacquelin Perske, and John Schwarz (Full Clip).
