Foxtel Arts has partnered with Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) to deliver locally-produced orchestral content for the channel.

In April next year audiences will be able to watch the SSO under conductor David Robertson in The Desert Music by American composer Steve Reich and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

Robertson said the orchestration of Desert Music is “just sensational”.

“When you have a 90-piece orchestra on stage, man this piece is gorgeous! It is just out of this world,” he said. “Desert Music and The Rite of Spring say some very fascinating things about people and how we work as a species.”

SSO managing director Rory Jeffes said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Foxtel Arts. Together we will offer audiences around Australia the opportunity to see our orchestra performing at its home, the Sydney Opera House, with our Chief Conductor David Robertson and some of the world’s best classical music soloists.”

The SSO is one of the seven resident companies of the Sydney Opera House, and performs approximately 150 concerts each year.

“Having experienced David Robertson conducting the Stravinsky/Reich programme I am very happy indeed that Foxtel Arts’ audience will be brought to the concert hall via the channel. After recently establishing a number of Australian orchestral broadcast partnerships it is most pleasing indeed that our offering will now include concerts from the great Sydney Symphony Orchestra," said Foxtel Arts & Music channels manager Fraser Stark said.

Foxtel Arts is also the broadcast partner of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Live Performance Australia.
