'Greenhouse by Joost'

Greenhouse by Joost is a feature documentary following Joost Bakker as he builds a self-sustaining home in the centre of Melbourne, an ecosystem that provides its occupants with water, energy, shelter, and nourishment.

Joined in his work by chefs Matt Stone and Jo Barrett, Bakker faces his fair share of challenges to finish the home, with bureaucratic delays, COVID shutdowns, and blackouts all threatening the build.

Rhian Skirving and Bruce Permezel wrote and directed the film, which was produced by GoodThing Productions, in association with Nude Run, Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund, and Vicscreen.

GoodThing Productions’ Nick Batzias and Charlotte Wheaton produced the project, while GoodThing’s Virginia Whitwell was executive producer alongside Madman Entertainment co-founder and CEO Paul Wiegard.

Greenhouse by Joost will be released in Australian cinemas via Madman Entertainment in November, first in Victoria and Tasmania on November 10, before coming to the ACT/NSW/WA/SA on November 17, and finally Queensland on November 24.

Bakker will participate in a series of Q&A events around Australia ahead of the theatrical release, speaking with guests such as Damon Gameau, Sarah Wilson, Jack Thompson, Clare Bowditch, Neil Perry, and Clare Cousins, as well as Stone and Barrett.
