Inside Film Awards call for emerging talent

Press release from 6dc

Inside Film Awards are giving you the opportunity to make your name in Australian film. Making your mark in the Australian film industry can be a difficult and daunting prospect.

With an average of only 20 Australian productions being released in cinemas each year (between 1985 and 2008)*, becoming recognised for your
work as a film maker is not an easy task. The Inside Film awards seek to help young filmmakers and support independent production through their EFilm IF Award for Rising Talent and National Film & Sound Archive Independent Spirit Award.

The IF Awards are also passionate about reflecting the views of Australian audiences. As such, for the fourth year in a row, both awards are open to the public for nominations and applications are now open.

This is a unique opportunity for young and creative filmmakers to make their mark in the industry and open the door to a bright future career. 2005 EFilm Rising talent winner Kath Shelper went on to win the Showtime IF Award for Best Feature in 2009 for Samson & Delilah. She commented, "The Rising Talent Award was such a big boost to my confidence (ahem, I mean ego). It's not often that you are recognised for your work as a producer and it really meant a lot to me to be acknowledged. Even sweeter, Jan Chapman presented me with the award – a dream come true!"

Clare Sawyer, General Manager of The Inside Film Awards explains “The purpose of these two awards is to showcase people and productions who challenge the status quo and that might otherwise slip under the radar of the mainstream. We love unearthing these little known projects that perhaps haven’t got the attention they deserve. In an environment that veers towards the vanilla it’s a welcome relief to see work that break the mould.”

The Efilm IF Award for Rising Talent is presented to an individual who exhibits incredible talent and potential – someone who has a bright future as a professional filmmaker. Of their support of the Rising Talent IF Award, Anthos Simon from EFilm explained, "The industry now more than ever needs to support good story tellers. Efilm works creatively with film makers to tell interesting and diverse stories that will engage with audiences. We are proud supporters for the Rising Talent IF Award."

The National Film & Sound Archive Independent Spirit Award is about rewarding filmmakers with compelling projects often made in unconventional ways. “The National Film and Sound Archive is delighted to sponsor the Independent Spirit IF Award for 2010. We are committed to collecting and preserving Australian films, and see our involvement with upcoming filmmakers at the start of their career as vital for the longevity of film,” said Dr Darryl McIntyre, NFSA CEO. “We’d like to encourage filmmakers to enter the Awards and, of course, to deposit their films with the NFSA!”

Entries for the 2010 EFilm IF Award for Rising Talent closes on Friday 23rd July 2010 and the Independent Spirit Award applications close on Monday 26th July 2010. For full application conditions and downloadable entry forms go to the Inside Film Awards website: www.ifawards.com

The 2010 Inside Film Awards is the favourite celebration of the Australian film Industry and the ceremony will be held in mid-November in Sydney.
