[Press Release by Liquid Ideas]
The first short films from John Jameson Productions will be premiered on November 13 at a special “green-carpet” event hosted by Jameson Irish Whiskey at the Cell Block Theatre, Darlinghurst.
The VIP, invitation-only event will feature the premiere of three short films, followed by Jameson Irish Whiskey cocktails at the Jameson hosted after-party worthy of a Hollywood premiere.
For the films’ writers – William Howarth, Van Badham and Ian Thomson – the premiere is the culmination of months of work, since they first entered the John Jameson Productions Scriptwriting Competition back in February this year.
A unique initiative from Jameson Irish Whiskey, the competition received more than 450 entries from aspiring scriptwriters across Australia, all hoping to have their ideas for a short film professionally produced by an experienced production team.
Howarth’s My New Toy, Badham’s Octopus and Thomson’s A True Story were selected as the winning scripts by a stellar judging panel that included Academy Award Winner Russell Boyd, respected actress and film critic Lisa Hensley, Shine and Strictly Ballroom producer Jane Scott, well-known Looking for Alibrandi star Pia Miranda and legendary scriptwriter Jan Sardi who won an Oscar nomination for Shine and wrote the script for the much-loved film The Notebook.
Jameson Irish Whiskey Brand Manager Monica Hart said the competition was a great way for the brand to show its support of the Australian film industry.
“John Jameson Productions was created to help foster burgeoning film talent in Australia and the John Jameson Productions script-writing competition has helped uncover some amazing new writers,” Ms Hart said.
Jameson Irish Whiskey has a global alignment with film and is a sponsor of the Tropfest, St Kilda and Flickerfest film festivals in Australia, the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in Ireland and The Independent Spirit Awards in LA.
The John Jameson Productions Premiere event will be held at the Cell Block Theatre, Darlinghurst on Thursday November 13, 2008.
The film premiere will also mark the opening of the 2009 John Jameson Productions Script Writing Competition.
