Live and Love Film competition announces winner

Sydney, 10 November 2011– The Second Annual Live and Love Short Film Competition sponsored by the Australian Herpes Management Forum (AHMF), Australia's leading independent organisation dedicated to the diagnosis, management and prevention of herpes viruses held its finalist evening tonight at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington, Sydney.

67 quality entries were received from entrants across Australia and uploaded to www.liveandlove.com.au. The films were limited to 30 seconds in length and were required to focus on the theme about telling your partner you have herpes. Judges for the event were AHMF Chairman Professor Adrian Mindel, sexual health experts Dr Catriona Ooi and Dr Darren Russell, short filmmaker and 2009 Tropfest winner Genevieve Clay-Smith and performance artist Cassandra Hawkins.

The shortlist for the Judge’s Award included:

· Let's Be Honest – Georgie Kesley (GK & BD), Balgowlah Heights, NSW

· Dr Dill presents HSV awareness – Matthew Dibbayawan (Daddy Issues), Annandale, NSW

· Don't wait till it's too late – Dave Wade/Seth Gecko, Whyalla, South Australia

· HSV Handbook – David Adlam/the Gents, Chatswood, NSW

· The Sound of Herpes – Anika Herbert, Castle Hill, NSW

The winner of the $10,000 Judge’s Award was David Adlam of Chatswood, NSW for HSV Handbook.

There were five winners of the People’s Choice Award, selected by votes to the site after viewing the films. Damien Eime of Blackwood, SA won three of these awards for his short films 'Holdup', 'Scrabble' and ‘Charades' and Simon Williams won two of these awards for his short films "I'm Getting Married' and 'Hey Barry".

Prof Mindel said, “We were very impressed with the entries which were of a very high quality. It’s clear these people have gotten the message about how to communicate to their partner they have genital herpes.”
