Make It – New animation comp announced

An initiative of the Creative Industries Innovation Centre (CIIC) and the UTS: Sydney International Animation Festival (UTS: SIAF), the competition is also supported by STAEDTLER, the manufacturers of FIMO modelling clay ­ the perfect material for the cinematic art of animation.

CIIC Director of Programs & Partnerships, Adam Blake, said, ³We see Australia¹s animation, gaming and interactive media industries as key areas of economic growth and innovation, which is why the Creative Industries Innovation Centre, together with our partners at STAEDTLER, are committed to supporting the next generation of animation professionals.

³We hope that animators will relish the opportunity to make good use of white modelling clay to create a 15-30 second piece, which explores the inspiration that drives their to creative work,² he said.

The five finalists will be announced at the UTS: SIAF Opening Night and their work will be featured at the Advanced Screening of the Best of the Fest.

The UTS: SIAF audience will judge the entries and the winner will receive a choice of either $1000 cash or the equivalent amount of FIMO product, courtesy of STAEDTLER FIMO.

The first 50 people to register their participation (by emailing makeit@creativeinnovation.net.au) will receive four free blocks of STAEDTLER FIMO to get them started.

The UTS: Sydney International Animation Festival is in its second year as a stand-alone festival, and is coordinated by the University of Technology, Sydney on the 24 – 26 September 2010 and features the latest highlights of world animation.
