This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the L’Oréal Paris AFI Awards. To celebrate, MOVIE EXTRA is honouring a plethora of Australia’s most influential films with the AFI Award Winners Festival.
Commencing on Monday 17 November until Friday 12 December, The AFI Award Winners Festival screens a treasure trove of Australian movies which have helped define who we are as a people; a culture and which have sometimes set the Australian film industry on a course of universal acclaim.
The AFI Awards Winners Festival is aptly presented by AFI winner Ben Mendelsohn, who introduces each film with rich and anecdotal information about its place and significance in Australian cinematic history.
Rolled out over 20 nights the AFI Awards Winners Festival brings paramount directing and riveting performances from first rate actors to the small screen. The festival embraces stories from a wide spectre of genres including elite dramatic films such as Lantana; a harrowing depiction of WWII events in Blood Oath; a collaborative, star-brimming ensemble in Cosi; and Meryl Streep’s Oscar-nominated performance in Evil Angels, which spurred one of our bestknown phrases in popular history – “the dingo’s got my baby”.
Peter Jenetsky, General Manager, Marketing & Content Strategy, MOVIE EXTRA said “Honouring AFI award-winning films in the lead up to the L’Oréal Paris 2008 AFI Awards 50th Anniversary is a special way to mark this milestone occasion. Over 50 years the Australian Film Institute has been emblematic in supporting Australian films. MOVIE EXTRA is delighted to bring our audience an array the country’s most esteemed cinematic works.”
