Omnilab Media is set to open Iloura and Digital Pictures in Sydney.
In the past, the two companies have been based solely in Melbourne.
Omnilab has made the investment with the intention of expanding the infrastructure of the two businesses – which cater to VFX and post-production respectively.
Once opened in Sydney, Iloura will look to providing its VFX and animation services to the global film and television market. Its facility in Melbourne is currently working on The Killer Elite and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in 3D.
Digital Pictures, which was acquired by Omnilab in 2005, will offer its services to Sydney-based film, television and advertising projects. The company will supervise the growth of The Lab Sydney.
The announcement has been made in light of recent news that New South Wales will be home to the sequel of Tomorrow When The War Began.
"As Omnilab Media invests in and produces more local and global film and television projects, it will generate greater employment opportunities for technically and creatively skilled Australians," said Omnilab managing director Christopher Mapp in a statement.
Tomorrow 2 is expected to create jobs for 150 local post-production and VFX practitioners.
