Four young prospective filmmakers have thousands of reasons to celebrate as they start their careers with scholarships to attend the unique Feature Film Diploma at Participate Film Academy.
It’ll be a tough journey in a challenging industry – but they are off to a head start with scholarships of $10,000 each!
The four successful students who have been awarded scholarships for the next course, which will begin in March 2013, are
Reaelle Collinson (17) from Wattle Grove Moorebank High School
Michael Coulson (18) from Carlingford Barker College
Alexandra Pryor (17) from Bayview Northern Beaches Christian School
Chloe Redding (17) from Ashfield Dulwich High School, Visual Art and Design
Participate’s Feature Film Diploma provides grounding in every aspect of feature (90+mins) filmmaking, unlike other film schools where students only work on short films. Students learn production, direction, cinematography, sound and editing making their feature film. They then market their film, which has an official premiere followed by theatrical screenings in mainstream cinemas nation-wide. It is an accredited course with a nationally recognised qualification.
“Students have the opportunity to experience all the levels and areas of film-making and increase their knowledge in a real working environment on the set of a movie,” says Participate founder, Artur Kade.
“They get hands-on experience in filmmaking, and also learn general skill such as team work, time, budget and resource management and critical decision making– all extremely useful for successful careers in any industry. When they graduate they are ready for professional guild membership and are highly employable in the media industry.”
Communications company Art of Multimedia sponsors the scholarships to financially support young people with ambition, creativity and capacity for hard work. Selection is based on the students’ previous experience, rationale for wanting a film career, and depth of commitment.
Schools throughout NSW were encouraged to nominate students for scholarships and Participate recognises the role of Careers Advisors in helping young people with an interest in film take this leap to realising their dreams to make movies.
Participate also offers on-set Work Experience for a week for anyone thinking of a career in film making but unsure of what’s involved.
