Pixar smashes all records at ACMI

Record crowds have been flocking to the Pixar: 20 Years of Animation exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image with close to 15,000 people passing through the exhibition in the first week.

The exhibition, part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series and an Australian exclusive, offers visitors a rare chance to never before seen artworks from the world’s most successful animation studio including drawings and models from Cars and Pixar’s upcoming release, Ratatouille, and a model of Nemo created by Pixar artists.

Tony Sweeney, Director, ACMI said, ‘I am absolutely thrilled that Melbournians have responded with such enthusiasm to this wonderful exhibition which explores the art and artistry process behind the magic of the films.

‘The huge numbers we have had through the show demonstrate the love and fascination among the public with Pixar’s unique stories, characters and worlds and ACMI is delighted to bring it to them in our first Winter Masterpieces series.’

Pixar: 20 Years of Animation features over 500 paintings, concept art, sculptures, and an array of digital installations revealing the intricate, hands-on processes behind Pixar’s computer-generated films popular around the world with both children and adults.

To accompany the exhibition, ACMI is also presenting a series of workshops, talks and free activities for a range of audiences and a special film season dedicated to Pixar films.
