DVD and online distributor Quickflix has bolstered its newly-launched movie streaming service with content supplied by NBCUniversal International Television Distribution.
The new agreement will add a broad selection of NBCUniversal's feature films to Quickflix's subscription and transactional video-on-demand service, which also features content from Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Lakeshore Entertainment, Pinnacle and Content Film.
NBCUniversal's library includes content from Universal Pictures, which recently released films such as Fast And Furious Five and Bridesmaids.
Quickflix chief executive, Chris Taylor, said in a statement: “Their current output is doing remarkably well at the box office and the depth of their library will add great value to our subscription movie streaming service, which is showing tremendous early traction with consumers.”
There are a number of companies jockeying for position in the growing online movie market ahead of the rollout of the National Broadband Network. Major players include Apple iTunes as well as Telstra's BigPond Movies and T-Box.
Quickflix said it expects to announce more content deals in coming weeks. Its streaming service is available via connected Bravia television or Blu-ray players, PC and Macs, and will shortly be available through the Sony Playstation 3 gaming console.
