Australian stage and screen star, Richard Roxburgh (Rake, Moulin Rouge, East of Everything), will narrate the upcoming docudrama series Australia: The Story of Us, starting soon on Seven.
The eight-part series is an extraordinary journey through the people, places and events that have shaped our nation from the first footprints on our continent to the present day. Astounding visual sequences, amazing CGI and dramatic re-enactments bring these stories to life and show how we came to be the country we are today.
Richard said: “Working on the series has been quite an eye-opener for me. I’d always thought I was pretty well-versed in Australian history, but it’s exposed many deficits in that knowledge. Exploring the strands of our story in this way has left me both startled and proud of our dangerous, tragic, brave, hilarious and bizarre history.”
The film features interviews with important thinkers, notable celebrities and iconic national figures who take us inside the stories that have influenced our history, including Associate Professor Charlie Teo, Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith VC MG, Professor Tim Flannery, Reverend Tim Costello, Adam Goodes, Dick Smith, Andrew O’Keefe, Ian Thorpe, Molly Meldrum, Bindi Irwin, Layne Beachley, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, Rebecca Gibney, Guy Sebastian, Dannii Minogue and Chris Bath.
Produced by Essential Media & Entertainment, the docudrama premieres at 8.30 pm on February 15. Directors Hugh Ballantyne, Lisa Matthews. Writers Andrew Anastasios, David Roach, Max Mannix, Katherine Thomson. Supervising Producer Chris Thorburn. Executive Producers Alan Erson, Ben Goold.
