Salt, starring Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber, marks a return to the spy thriller genre for Australian director Phillip Noyce. He has previously directed films including Catch a Fire (2006), The Quiet American (2002), Rabbit Proof Fence (2002), The Saint (1997), Clear and Present Danger (1994) and Dead Calm (1989).
The film follows CIA officer Evelyn Salt (Jolie), who swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who Is Salt?"
The film, which was released in the US on July 23, can be seen in Australia from August 19.
