Press release from Channel Seven
Channel Seven today announced international singer and performer Mel B – aka Scary Spice – will join the judging panel of The X Factor in 2011.
She will bring her unique persona to the desk, sitting alongside Guy Sebastian and Ronan Keating, as judge and mentor to a new round of singing hopefuls.
Mel B knows a thing or two about the music industry. As part of the world conquering Spice Girls, Mel B has sold over 55 million records worldwide.
The Spice Girls became the fastest selling British band since the Beatles when they released their debut album, ‘Spice’ – which remains the best-selling album by a female group in history.
Since then, Mel B has had a successful solo career releasing three albums, and has moved into the television world, appearing on the US Dancing With The Stars, and last year, launching her own reality show, Mel B: It’s A Scary World.
Mel B was a guest mentor on last year’s series of The X Factor, and is excited to be returning to Australia for a permanent role at the judge’s desk. "I'm thrilled to be a part of The X Factor Australia,” she said today.
“I love Australia and can't wait to see all the amazing talent the country has to offer.”
The incredible and enduring careers of Mel B, Ronan and Guy will help guide the 2011 budding stars of The X Factor, as they battle it out for a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.
In a change to the rules, this year The X Factor is open to singers 14 years and above – either solo performers or groups. Once through the final audition process, the four judges take on mentoring roles, as the performers are split into categories – Boys under 25, Girls under 25, the over 25s and the Groups.
Since its first UK series in 2004, The X Factor has established itself as the world’s leading singing talent search – successfully launching into over 20 territories, including Sweden, Russia, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Germany and is about to launch in the USA.
The final and fourth judge on The X Factor will be revealed in the coming weeks. The X Factor is a Fremantle production for Channel Seven. For more information on the show, click here.
