[press release from Short Sited]
This Friday the 13th, the Illawarra’s premier short film festival will finally lunge out with claws bearing and attack the big screen with some spooky short film fun as well as the usual selection of strange and wonderful films! Get ready to scream with delight!
Audiences are set to enjoy 17 finalist films films of all varieties from local Illawarra and national filmmakers including the comedic sequel to 2006’s audience favourite The Larny Jumper by Rory Anderson from Thirroul, Flux, a tense zombie thriller from Richard Harwood of Balgownie, and a special international entry from New York, Daniel Stedman’s The Moth and The Firefly – a beautiful, romantic, lyrical film about a moth, who after losing his lightblub, falls in love with a firefly.
Special guest judge is James Rabbitts, writer/director of his new debut feature film The Clinic, a thriller that was partly shot locally at Coalcliff and is set to be released in 2009 across Australiasia by Polyphony Entertainment.
Videogame giant Atari is set to reward all category winners with a few top notch prize giveaways with much anticipated titles Batman: Arkham Asylum and Ghostbusters: The Videogame. The real reward that filmmakers crave is enabling their films to be seen by a wider audience and have thus already secured their position on the upcoming Short Sited DVD release. The current 2008 DVD is available to rent from all Video Ezy’s across the Illawarra and South Coast.
Festival director Tom Subjak says “For such a humble festival to achieve such results for Illawarra filmmakers, I’m proud to say that our 2009 festival is looking to make an even bigger splash! It’s been an absolute delight to put together. I invite everyone to come along for a great night out and enjoy the show! There’s very little to none of this kind of event in the Illawarra, so every bit of support is important to keep the festival running in order to develop our future filmmakers! It would be a horror to see it go.”
