Sisi Stringer lands breakthrough role in New Line’s ‘Mortal Kombat’

After graduating from Queensland University of Technology as a Bachelor in Fine Arts last year, Sisi Stringer has landed a key supporting role in New Line’s Mortal Kombat reboot.

Stringer will play Mileena, an unstable, dual sai-wielding assassin in the superhero movie directed by Aussie Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan and Todd Garner.

That’s quite a coup for the Brisbane-based actor/singer who has just two screen credits: an episode of the ABC/Hoodlum Entertainment’s Harrow and a small role in Alister Grierson/Eclectik Vision’s comedic thriller Bloody Hell.

Stringer is repped by CBM Management’s Clinton Bryan-Mathieson, who signed her when she came to Sydney for a QUT showcase.

Shooting starts at the Adelaide Studios and locations on September 26, with investment from the South Australian Government.

Angela Heesom is casting the film based on the iconic video game, which spawned the 1995 movie Mortal Kombat and the 1997 sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

The production is expected to generate $70 million in expenditure, create 580 jobs and employ 1,500 extras, according to the SA Government.

The cast includes Joe Taslim (Fast & Furious 6) as Sub-Zero, a frosty ninja; Mehcad Brooks (Supergirl) as Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs, the Special Forces muscleman; Tadanobu Asano (Thor: Ragnarok) as Raiden, the Japanese god of thunder; and Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Liu Kang, champion and chief defender of Earthrealm.

Mortal Kombat is scheduled to open in the US on March 5 2021.
