Press Release from Nixco
The premiere of Movie Extra's dark comedic drama, Small Time Gangster last week delivered the strongest debut of any original series to date for Movie Network Channels. This is a distinguished consideration for the new Australian production given Movie Network Channels other successful properties including; critically acclaimed The Jesters, AFI Award and Logie award nominated Chandon Pictures. Small Time Gangster even out rated the series one and two premieres of the cult hit and internationally acclaimed TV series Mad Men.
The series has garnered stellar reviews from media including;
“smart, witty, a bit Tarantino, and the best thing we've done in years.”
Graeme Blundell, The Australian
“from the fabulous opening sequence to the perfect final scene, this is a beautifully structured piece of telly that gets pretty much everything right…funny, thrilling, gruesome and thoroughly satisfying.”
ï‚«ï‚«ï‚«ï‚« Melinda Houston, Sunday Age
“deeply dark funny stuff”

With the inclusion of consolidated OzTam* ratings, Small Time Gangster's Tuesday night premiere audience more than doubled. This is an indication that the series was highly anticipated and will become a strong "appointment to view‟ program for Foxtel's iQ and Austar's MyStar customers.
Movie Network Channels General Manager, Content Strategy & Marketing, Peter Jenetsky said “we sensed the energy building behind the launch of Small Time Gangster not only from the raft of positive media reviews but also the interest from fans across social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. From here we're confident that the word will pass that this series is a true Aussie corker and one not to be missed! So this is why Movie Network Channels has created a number of ways for customers to continue to engage with the series.”
Subscribers have the opportunity to catch up on episodes here and additional programming has been scheduled on Movie Extra with four episodes screening back to back in a Small Time Gangster marathon on Sundays (8 May, 22 May, and 5 June) from 2.30pm.
