SPA launches second iteration of industry survey

Screen Producers Australia (SPA) is calling for production companies to undertake its annual survey of the screen production sector, to be conducted by Deloitte Access Economics.

The survey is open from now until August 9, to all companies – not just SPA members.

Last year’s inaugural survey found that the independent screen production sector generated $1.2 billion in production revenue in the 2017 calendar year, exported $163 million and support around 20,000 jobs. However, more than 20 per cent of production companies reported a loss and nearly 50 per cent only small profit. Almost one in 10 report were worried about staying afloat over the next five years.

The data will be collated into a report for use by production businesses, policy makers and other decision makers in the industry.

“Last year the Screen Production in Australia report provided evidence-based data that has given us an invaluable insight into the health of the Australian production sector, employment, trade and investment. This data has already aided SPA in attracting government attention and public policy support for our industry, and I look forward to seeing the trends that emerge from this year’s report. I encourage all production businesses to contribute to this critical piece of work by completing the survey,” said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.

SPA has partnered with Media Super, Film Victoria and Screen Queensland and Create NSW to deliver the report.

Every organisation that completes the survey goes in the running to win a complementary Gold Pass to Screen Forever (November 12-14 2019, Melbourne).
