Press release from St Kilda Film Festival
The City of Port Phillip is thrilled to support the nation’s premiere short film festival, screening and awarding Australia’s Top 100 Short Films.
Now in its 29th year the St Kilda Film Festival’s (SKFF) Top 100 competition recognises and awards local filmmakers of all levels of experience who excel in creative and craft and who show potential for growth within the industry.
From an increasingly competitive field of entrants, 62 nominees are in the running for 18 prestigious awards and their share of $40,000 of cash and in-kind prizes, with the winner of the Best Film being awarded $10,000 cash.
The nominations for the 2012 Best Short Film include: At The Formal (Directed by Andrew Kavanagh & Produced by Ramona Telecican). Peekaboo (Directed by Damien Power & Produced by Joe Weatherstone) The Palace (Directed by Anthony Maras & Produced by Anthony Maras, Kate Croser, Andros Achilleos) and Transmission (Directed by Zak Hilditch & Produced by Liz Kearney)
Nominees for Best Documentary are: Five Dock Crew (Directed by Simon Baré & Produced by Simon Baré), It’s Him… Terry Lim (Director by Angus Sampson & Produced by Jo de Fina), Ten Quintillion (Directed by Romilly Spiers & Produced by Romilly Spiers, Daniel Gregg) and The Globe Collector (Directed by. Summer DeRoche & Produced by Andrea Distefano).
Nominations for Best Animation go to: Nullarbor (Directed by Alister Lockhart, Patrick Sarell & Produced by Katrina Mathers, Merrin Jensen, Patrick Sarell, Daryl Munton), Polo’s Robot (Directed by Peter Lowey & Produced by Melanie Brunt), The Cartographer (Directed by Jane Shadbolt & Produced by Karinn Cheung) and The Missing Key (Directed by Jonathan Nix & Produced by Garth Nix).
A judging panel comprising of independent industry identities including Emma Bortignon, Tait Brady and Roslyn Walker will be faced with the difficult decision of selecting the 2012 winners which will be announced at the Closing Night Awards on Sunday 27 May at the St Kilda Town Hall.
