The Surfworld Museum in Torquay will present a four day international surf film festival from Tuesday 3rd January to Friday 6th January 2012 featuring a range of diverse surf films and documentaries from Australia and around the world.
Opening night on Tuesday 3rd January will feature a spectacular double bill. First the Victorian Premiere of Matt Kleiner’s stunning visual epic Way of the Ocean, a film which explores the surf, sounds and spirit of our great Australian coastline; followed by the Victorian Premier of Richard and Andrew James, Thirty Thousand, a 30,000 km surfing odyssey from Casablanca to Cape Town down the West coast of Africa. Thirty Thousand recently won the Best Sound Award at the New York Surf Film Festival.
Other highlights of the festival include a special screening of the iconic Australian surf film First Love, the Australian premiere of For Better, For Worst and the award winning surf documentary Thirty Thousand, a 30,000 km surfing Odyssey from Casablanca to Cape Town.
Thursday 5th January will see the Australian premiere of Alexander Klein’s powerful surf documentary, God Went Surfing with the Devil which explores the emerging surf community on the Gaza Strip and the daily dangers they face trying to catch a wave.
The final highlight of the festival will be a special premier screening on Friday 6th January of Minds in the Water. Surfer Dave Rastovich takes us on a personal journey from apathy to activist as he tries to stop the worldwide slaughter of dolphins and whales. Presented by Modom Surf all proceeds from this screening will go to the Sea Shepherd Foundation.
The Surfworld International Film Festival is running at Surfworld Museum, Beach Road, Torquay. Doors Open at 7.30pm. All films commence at 8.00pm.
