PRESS RELEASE
Tango Underpants Pty Ltd is delighted to announce that its highly anticipated romantic comedy, Tango Underpants, has been selected to screen in competition at the 23rd Flickerfest International Short Film Festival 2014.
A playful and engrossing short film, Tango Underpants was written by legendary screenwriter, John Collee Collee (HAPPY FEET, MASTER AND COMMANDER) and stars Emma Booth (PARKER, CLUBLAND, Underbelly: Golden Mile).
It was co-directed by Perth siblings Miranda Edmonds and Khrob Edmonds, photographed by award-winning cinematographer Denson Baker ACS (ORANGES AND SUNSHINE, THE BLACK BALLOON), and proudly produced by Feisty Dame Productions' CEO Tania Chambers and Impian Films' CEO Stephen Van Mil.
Tango Underpants tells the story of Carolyn (Emma Booth) – a young Australian backpacker who, after a bad breakup and too long on the road, has completely lost her mojo. However, all of that changes when she reaches South America. Here she discovers, not only the wonders of the Tango dance and the people but also, the vital importance of the right underwear.
According to Chambers, the announcement comes as a wonderful surprise after a year’s hard work.
“Flickerfest features the most striking films from around the world so we are rapt that Tango Underpants will screen in such great company.”
“To know that Flickerfest will then travel around Australia for audiences to view our work, is simply heartwarming”, said Chambers.
Tango Underpants was made possible by ScreenWest’s 3-to-1 initiative through the crowdfunding platform, Pozible. The campaign generated 220 pledges ranging from $5 to $2,000, including five executive producers from around the world. It was shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina in June 2013.
Flickerfest runs 10-19 January 2014 at Bondi Beach, Sydney. For a full programme of events and screenings, visit www.flickerfest.com.au.
