IGTV Film Festival winner Sara Glaoua.
Sara Glaoua has taken home the top prize at the first ever IGTV Film Festival for her short The Gift.
The IGTV Film Festival is a joint initiative between Instagram, Sydney Film Festival and VICE for emerging filmmakers under 35. The theme this year was ‘Future’, and entrants were encouraged to share a sense of what it’s like to live in Australia today, and what it might be like in the years to come — whether it’s the environment, identity, politics, food, or sport, using the vertical IGTV platform.
The Gift follows a young Ethiopian refugee living in Tasmania with dreams of becoming a professional soccer player.
Glaoua was selected as the winner by an industry jury including Sydney Film Festival director Nashen Moodley from Sydney Film Festival, Instagram Australia strategic partner manager Zaac d’Almeida, and VICE Australia head of video Katy Roberts.
The director takes home $5,000 in prize money, and will also receive $2500 worth of rental for camera and lenses furnished by Panavision.
