Australian revenge-thriller, The Horseman begins its theatrical rollout in the United Kingdom this Halloween weekend across thirty-plus screens. The debut feature from writer/director Steven Kastrissios and featuring a star-making performance by actor Peter Marshall was originally planned for a limited 5 screen release, but after a wave of strong critical reviews, festival play and market interest, UK distributor Kaleidoscope dramatically expanded their release.
“We are delighted with achieving over 30 screens for the opening weekend of the film – a great result in today’s competitive marketplace. With a clever digital late night screening strategy for Halloween, we feel the film has something different to offer to the public and we hope to continue the spread of screens ongoing. The film has had amazing audience reactions whenever it has played and we feel it can become a real indie crowd pleaser here in the UK”, said Spencer Pollard, CEO of Kaleidoscope.
Kastrissios spoke of the release saying, "It’s a dream come true and I just hope the theatrical interest translates back home to exhibitors for our release early next year. The UK was the first territory we sold to and it’s refreshing to see how highly regarded Aussie genre cinema is internationally."
The film is being distributed locally by Umbrella Entertainment who anticipate strong word of mouth before its 2010 theatrical release. Umbrella’s Managing Director Jeff Harrison is excited about the release, stating “it is the best revenge film I’ve seen in ages.”
