Sophie Lowe and Gillian Alexy are among the Aussies making waves in Hollywood.
Lowe has just scored the co-lead in the feature Waiting for the Miracle to Come alongside Willie Nelson and Charlotte Rampling.
Alexy will star in drama series Outsiders, a tale of the struggle for power and control in the hills of Appalachia commissioned by the cable channel WGN America.
Meanwhile Sullivan Stapleton will play an FBI special agent who investigates the case of a beautiful young tattooed woman whose memory has been wiped in the NBC drama pilot Blindspot.
Waiting for the Miracle to Come is the debut feature from writer-director Lian Lunson, whose credits include the documentaries Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man and Sing Me the Songs That Say I Love You: A Concert for Kate McGarrigle.
U2 frontman Bono will co-executive produce and write a song for Nelson which he will sing in the film, which starts shooting next month in Nelson’s hometown of Spicewood, Texas.
Lowe will play an aspiring trapeze artist who discovers a cryptic letter her recently deceased father wrote directing her to a gold mine in the California desert.
In search of the gold she winds up at “The Beautiful Place,” a house occupied by retired vaudeville stars Jimmy and Dixie Riggs (Nelson and Rampling).
Lowe will next be seen in The Returned, an English-language TV remake of the French Zombie drama Les Revenants. Due to premiere in the US on A&E on March 9, the series features an ensemble cast that includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Mark Pellegrino, Jeremy Sisto and India Ennenga.
In Outsiders Alexy, a former McLeod’s Daughters regular, will play the daughter of the Farrell clan who live off the grid and above the law in their mountaintop homestead and are determined to protect their world and defend their way of life by any means necessary.
Fellow Aussie Thomas M Wright (Top of the Lake, The Bridge) will play Sheriff Houghton, a good cop who, beneath the surface, is deeply troubled. The producers are Peter Tolan and Paul Giamatti, Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios.
Alexy was a regular in spy mystery The Americans (which screened here on SoHo) and medical comedy-drama Royal Pains (Seven Network).
Blindspot co-stars Jaimie Alexander (Thor: The Dark World, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) as the mystery woman who has the name of Stapleton’s character tattooed on her back.
Mark Pellington will direct the pilot written by Martin Gero for Warner Bros. TV and Greg Berlanti Productions.
The star of Strike Back and 300: Rise Of An Empire, Stapleton will be on screen later this year in Kriv Stenders' Kill Me Three Times and in Tony Ayres' Cut Snake.
