Two short films (Bat Eyes, Boot) directed by Australian filmmaker Damien Power have made the semi-finals of the inaugural Your Film Festival.
YouTube's global community will view the films and vote to determine the ten finalists who will attend and screen their films at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in August. In Venice, one grand-prize winner will be awarded $500,000 to develop a project with legendary film director, Sir Ridley Scott, and Prometheus star, Michael Fassbender.
The festival received more than 15,000 submissions from 160 countries but selected just 50 films.
Power is one of just three filmmakers whose work is represented twice in the competition. Fans can vote once per day during the four week voting period.
Bat Eyes and Boot were developed by the Australian Theatre for Young People's (ATYP) The Voices Project, which encourages young people to write for stage, film and online performance. Bat Eyes and Boot were adapted from original theatrical monologues by Sydney-based playwrights Jessica Bellamy and Joanna Erskine, who worked closely with Power to develop their screenplays.
