US release of I, Frankenstein delayed until Sept, 2013

The US release of Australian gothic-horror film I, Frankenstein, has been delayed until September, 2013.

US distributor Lionsgate has pushed back the release by almost seven months (from next February 22 to September 13) to make way for Dwayne Johnson's Snitch, according to Deadline.com.

While I, Frankenstein is being released in Australia by Hopscotch/eOne, a firm release date has not yet been published. Hopscotch Features is also a co-producer of the $50 million film, which was shot in Melbourne and remains in post-production.

I, Frankenstein is based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux (co-creator of the Underworld franchise) and stars Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy and Yvonne Strahovski. The visual effects-heavy modern retelling of the Frankenstein tale was directed by Stuart Beattie.

I, Frankenstein is not the only big-budget local film to be delayed recently. In August, the release of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby was delayed by five to seven months to mid-2013.
