A new documentary called Playing in the Shadows, by IF Award winning documentary making team Sascha Ettinger Epstein and Marco Ianniello, has been selected to premiere at this year’s Sydney Film Festival.
The doco was shot over one year and takes a look at the suburb of Woolloomooloo, which is home to one of Sydney ‘s most notorious housing estates.
SFF program director Jenny Neoighbour has described the film as “a thought-provoking and pleasurably upbeat look at this unique suburb and its young community”.
Ianniello & Ettinger Epstein won the IF Award in 2005 for their documentary Sentences about an art program in Long Bay Goal. They teamed up once again to collborate on Playing in the Shadows, a 53 minute documentary funded through the new AFC/ABC jTV Dox initiative.
Ettinger Epstein most recently completed the feature length documentary The Oasis (co-directed by Ian Darling of Shark Island Films) and screened on the ABC earlier this year to critical acclaim.
Playing in the Shadows premieres at The Sydney Film Festival on Saturday 14th June at the State Theatre.
