Bill Walker, a Blue Mountains shop owner, is in crisis. His wife Marge has died and his artistic son Kevin is immature and dependent.
Their tourist cafe is failing. He forces Kevin into a Chewbacca suit and gets him to run across the road in the surrounding national park. At first it works and tourists pour into the shop to buy Yowie memorabilia. Then it all goes horribly wrong…
Directed by Jens Hertzum, produced by Kylie Connell, written by Laurence de B. Anderson and cinematography by Callan Green, The Yowie – made for about $60,000 – has won two awards at the Los Angeles Cinema Film Festival: Award of Merit and Best Cinematography. Profits from the film will mostly go to breast cancer research.
