Event wrap-up: ‘Wicked’ Australian premiere; Australians at the Sustainable Production Forum

The Australian premiere of Wicked brought Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode and Ethan Slater to the State Theatre, Sydney, which was transformed into a whimsical tribute to Munchkinland on Sunday night.

Wicked, based on the musical, tells the story of the witches of Oz. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

Together, they meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and ultimately fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Wicked will be released in Australian cinemas on November 21.

Australians at the Sustainable Production Forum

Eight Australians (Dan Astin, Lilly Rolfe, Lindy Taylor, Narinder Virdee, Paige Gibson, Sarah Tosone, Tessa de Josselin, and Zac Lurje) were recently selected to attend the annual Sustainable Production Forum (SPF24) event where they undertook Sustainable Production for Entertainment Certification (SPEC) training in Toronto, Canada.

Amazon MGM Studios funded the first-of-its-kind training program for a total of 30 individuals internationally, which was organised through USGBC California and Green Spark Group.

The Australian attendees are now in the process of writing an open letter to the Australian film industry about their experience, how sustainability requirements need to be tied to funding, and that the time for action is now.
