NBC’s Camp keeps most of its followers

NBC’s Australian-shot summer series Camp continues to rack up healthy ratings in the US.

The second episode drew 4.5 million viewers on Wednesday night, down from the 5 million that watched the premiere. Camp ranked #1 In the key 18-49 demographic, its rating slipping by just one tenth of a percentage point to 1.4.

Variety described that as a “pretty good week-two showing,” noting that the series is the second best performer among the new scripted dramas behind CBS’s Under the Dome.

Camp is benefiting from a strong lead-in from America’s Got Talent which was the top-rating show of the night with 11.02 million viewers.

Filmed on the Tweed Heads area of NSW and set in a US summer camp, the series stars Rachel Griffiths as a newly-divorced camp director/owner and Rodger Corser as her Aussie rival/love interest.

The Seven Network has the rights to the show, which was produced by Selfish Mermaid, BermanBraun and Australia’s Matchbox Pictures in association with NBCUniversal International Television Production.

After the US premiere, TV Watch U.S. commentator Daniel Redford said a repeat screening last Friday encouraged more people to sample the series. But he concluded, “It is simply too early to tell whether the show will survive or not, so it will be a toss-up for now.”
