ABC capitalises on Samson hype

Press release from ABC TV

ABC TV is pleased to announce that Samson and Delilah – which last night won the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival – will screen on the ABC later this year.

Director of Television Kim Dalton says: “This is the first feature film ABC TV has been involved in for 10 years, and to have it recognised on this international stage is very exciting. It will also provide an opportunity for the film to reach a much wider audience.”

ABC TV became involved in the project in 2007 when producer Kath Shelper brought a late draft of the script to ABC TV’s now Head of Drama, Miranda Dear, who became its Commissioning Editor.

“I should have known when Warwick Thornton wrote a love story it wouldn’t be any ordinary love story. But even working with Warwick and Kath on their short films “Mimi” and “Greenbush” didn’t prepare me for the script of Samson and Delilah, which simply took my breath away.

“In awarding him the Camera D’Or, the most prestigious and biggest film festival on earth has recognized Warwick as a world class filmmaker. It’s an extraordinary achievement for a first feature and ABC TV Drama is incredibly proud to be involved.”
