Wentworth renewed for a fifth season

Wentworth.

Foxtel has announced that Wentworth, its longest running original Australian drama series, is set for a fifth season.

FremantleMedia Australia will commence production in Melbourne next month, with the season to premiere next year.

Foxtel Head of Drama Penny Win said Wentworth has gone from strength to strength.

“Not only is it an international television success story, now showing in 141 territories, it is a ratings blockbuster and fan favourite for Foxtel audiences. We are extremely proud of this long-running drama juggernaut,” she said.

“It was a very easy decision to commission a further season of this brilliantly constructed and crafted program from our production partner FremantleMedia. There is a lot in store both for the women behind bars and those on the outside.”

FremantleMedia Australia director of drama and Wentworth executive producer Jo Porter said: “As season four comes to a close, the audience has witnessed a dangerous shift in the power base at Wentworth which is building to an unmissable conclusion next week.

Wentworth has built a reputation for delivering a world with unexpected twists and turns where no character is safe.  The season’s end provides a chilling platform for our script producer Marcia Gardner and the writing team to shape the next chapter for our regular characters, along with some new faces in the yard and on the outside. With series producer Pino Amenta at the helm, our ambition to keep lifting the bar and reward our audience both locally and internationally couldn't be stronger.”

  1. I hope Allie (Kate Jenkinson) & Sonia (Sigrid Thornton) are in S5 as regular cast members. I think Sonia’s story is far from being wrapped up & the writers could take that anywhere. Everybody loves a true love story & my god Allie & Bea have just made the new definition of it. Such a great pairing & storyline that I hope & I know many many many others hope to see it continued. I do feel Fergusons story needs to either come to an end or something needs to change as its getting a lil far fetched with the sort of stuff she is & has gotten away with. I love Pamela Rabe she plays the best villain on tv to date but all great villains come to an end & for her to go back as governor would make the show lose alot of credibility, in my opinion. Bring on season 5, I may just sleep the next year away 😊

  2. Hi….I totally just love your block buster series so far of Wentworth. It keeps on the edge of my chair..I know your awesome script will do a brillant job.Congratulations…

  3. I can never get enough of Wentworth. Love Danielle Cormack Nicole da Silva and jenko.
I have never seen a show like this one. Never a dull moment.I just hope Bea didn’t die and she pulls thru and her and Allie are together.

  4. The most gripping show currently produced by anyone. Wentworth takes you fully out of your body, and keeps you in its grasp till it’s done. I think it’s well-made, well-scripted, and well-acted, but i can’t really tell because I can’t retain critical faculties while watching it. I can’t imagine the show without Danielle Cormack (Bea), but her injuries do appear fatal…On the other hand, few shows, no matter how good, survive the loss of the heroine.

  5. Your show is remarkable. The relationships and conflicts between the characters are real and gripping. It is hands down the best show anywhere. I’m eagerly looking forward to season 5.

  6. This is a gift. The characters are rich in depth. The scripts fantastic, and all the actors deserve awards. I streamed all four seasons and never had to fast forward to get through a “boring part”. There are no boring parts. I’ve never watched such a riveting series. I’m on my second viewing and can’t wait for season five, six, seven, etc., etc., etc. WELL DONE!

  7. I love Bea Smith and the original in Prisoner cell block H. I used to always look forward to Bea having a fight, I had every confidence in her. This sis a gripping new series and glad its got all the same name characters and got through the first series and stories are a little out of the shadow of the original. Danielle McCormack doesn’t seem anywhere as fierce as the original Bea Smith. I like the actor but I don’t have the confidence in her, she doesn’t seem to heavy people like the original or fight her own battles, she relies on Maxine, whereas Val Lehman come up against situations on her own and used her intelligence as this Bea has, however, the fourth season has disappointed me, having Bea in a lesbian relationship,it’s disempowered her, She’s heterosexual, how do you go from that to that, that spoiled it for me. She hasn’t proved herself like the original apart from season 2. Above all she hasn’t had a fight with the Freak. if the ratings have gone down that’s why, lesbian relationships are not what tops the ratings. I am interested in the Sonia Stevenson character, like the original Sonia who was blonde. not seen the last episode yet, until Tuesday 6th September, and can’t see how this is going to conclude in an hour. please don’t kill off Bea, otherwise you uhave lost it, She’s too good and strong a character and there is a lot of storylines you could do with her and I hope the series at least gets to a seventh season

  8. I love this show.So much better than American series. Wait, I just watched the final episode. I can’t believe you did that. I really don’t know if I will watch seaon five now.
