Harry Potter blitzes Aus box office

Warner Bros. Pictures “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” has blasted into first place at the Australian box office, achieving an opening day figure of $4.37 million across 510 screens, making it the third biggest Australian opening day figure of all time. This figure includes a total of $116,195 taken on 5 IMAX® 3D screens across Australia.

TOP FIVE Australian Opening Days:

1. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King                $5.29m
2. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers                   $5.23m
3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince        $4.37m
4. Matrix Reloaded                                             $4.17m
5. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring          $4.12m

All of the top five Australian opening day records are held by titles distributed by Roadshow Films.
 
This opening day figure also represents the highest Wednesday result of all time at the Australian box office, and the highest opening day figure ever on a day which is not a public holiday.
 
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, the sixth instalment of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter film franchise, opened on Wednesday July 15th in cinemas nationally, including IMAX® 3D in select locations.
