Janet King/Crownies regular Christopher Morris and Home and Away’s Esther Anderson play the leads in Broken Contract, an action comedy that starts shooting in Perth on April 28.
It’s the second feature from writer-director James Pentecost, whose debut was Twisted Minds, and the third from Jag Pannu Productions, in association with VCR Media.
The producer is Hayden Fortescue. Jag Pannu Productions made the thrillers Twisted Minds (which stars John Howard, Kyle Morrison and Jessica Hegarty) and Loren Johnson’s Raven’s Cabin.
Morris plays Max, a down-on-his-luck club owner struggling to make ends meet. When a local gang threatens his livelihood and his family, he hires a hit man to protect the ones he loves. However he soon finds himself spinning out of control as friends and enemies alike start disappearing.
Anderson plays Detective Keeling and Jag Pannu portrays the hit man. Anderson recently participated in Siberia, a 13-part NBC series in which 16 international contestants are left to fend for themselves in the Siberian wilderness for the chance to win $US500,000.
Morris appears with John Cusack and Thomas Jane in Brian Trenchard-Smith's Gold Coast-set Drive Hard.
“As an action comedy rather than a straight genre offering, it gives us a wonderful opportunity to play creatively with style and tone that we wouldn’t have on another production,” said Pentecost, who directed his first film, The Canterbunny Tails, in 2009. “The script is action packed but maintains its comedy centre, making it a really exciting production to be a part of."
