Top producers hit Byron Bay for upskill seminar

Some of Australia’s most accomplished screen producers will be in Byron Bay next month to present at Screenworks’ two-day seminar: The Business of Producing.  

The event, to be held at SAE Institute on March 11-12, is aimed boosting the production skills of local filmmakers, with a view to increasing screen production opportunities in the region.

One of the event’s key speakers and the Head of Production at Matchbox Pictures, Helen Panckhurst said she was looking forward to connecting with local producers.

"There’s something fantastically rewarding about sharing knowledge and connecting with new people and fresh ideas – especially in such a beautiful part of the world."  

For anyone interested in film and television production, this event will provide advice through presentations and round table discussions 

There will be up-to-date information on producer best practice for documentary and drama production. 

Others guest speakers include documentary producer, Veronica Fury, senior development and production executive at Screen NSW – Mark Hamlyn and Screen Producers Australia chief executive, Matthew Deaner.  

Along with visiting producers, a strong line up of local screen industry professionals will talk about their successes and advise on living regionally and doing business nationally and internationally;  including Lois Randall (Gods of Wheat St), Dana Michell – Series producer ITV studios and Victoria Baldock a distribution expert and CEO of Verve Entertainment.

Screenworks general manager, Ken Crouch, said: "We have identified up-skilling producers as a pivotal way to increase production opportunities in our region and have designed this event specifically to address that need.” 

Also presenting will be representatives from key screen industry organisations to give participants an insight into critical factors that a producer needs to access. 

Representatives include Fulcrum Media Finance, managing director, Sharon Menzies, Moneypenny Services chief executive, Jane Corben and Galvaniize Insurance founder, David McEwan.

They will run workshops on production finance, risk management and accounting practices for screen production.
