Samsung Mobile partners with AFI Awards

Press release from Kerry O’Brien Publicity

The Australian Film Institute and the executive producer of the AFI Awards, Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, are delighted to announce an unprecedented multimillion dollar three‐year partnership with Samsung Mobile as the new title sponsor of the SAMSUNG MOBILE AFI AWARDS.

Samsung has been a major sponsor of the AFI Awards since 2006 and this year took the valuable opportunity to become the title sponsor of Australia’s longest running and most prestigious screen industry awards ceremony.

Clearly delighted with the new partnership with Samsung Mobile, the CEO of the Australian Film Institute, Damian Trewhella, sees this as a brave new frontier for the AFI and the awards. “Our previous title sponsor, L’Oréal Paris, helped the AFI Awards become synonymous with glamour and prestige and we are very thankful for their support”, Trewhella says.

“This new partnership with Samsung Mobile is entirely appropriate and timely when the quality of filmmaking and audience experience is increasingly about cutting edge technology and innovation ‐ and no‐one does this better than Samsung Mobile.”

Vice President of Telecommunications, Tyler McGee, is excited by the opportunities created through the partnership.

"Samsung Mobile believes in Australian film, and as long time supporters of the arts, we are very excited to now step up into the role of title sponsor and grow our support of the Australian film industry”, McGee said. “We recognise that film and television resonate deeply with the Australian public and believe that our association with this prestigious event will allow us to deliver the best movie experiences on the move.”

Executive Producer, Paul Dainty, believes this is a brilliant result for the AFI Awards ceremony. “What a victory it is for the AFI Awards to enter this major new partnership with Samsung Mobile in such a challenging economic environment. Their substantial support will not only allow us to produce the best AFI Awards yet but also find new ways to celebrate our most outstanding Australian film and television achievements.”

With the ink now dry on the Samsung Mobile deal and nationwide screenings of the staggering 26 feature film entries into this year’s awards almost completed, full details regarding the 2009 SAMSUNG MOBILE AFI AWARDS ceremony in Melbourne are expected to be unveiled soon.
