Indie filmmakers create history

Sleeping just 3 hours in 3 days – a central coast film crew have script the awards pool at Geelong 24hours Shoot Out Film Festival.

Shane Emmett, Brian Dyer, John Roy and Jason van Genderen made Shoot Out history by not only submitting two film entries, their  winning film Carrion didn’t even utilize a video camera.

Carrion is a 2.5 minute short film shot entirely on an Olympus digital stills camera. The dark, experimental film follows the story of a murdered man traversing a dystopic world, bereft of time and reason.

Shot in the alleyways and streets of Geelong, the film was actually the second in-camera film to be made by the crew in 24 hours, who managed to also produce the top 10 comedy Hoodie –  a fractured fairytale based on Little Red Riding Hood and featuring narration by Rodney Rude and Rove McManus.

The Central Coast crew, who previously won the Newcastle Shoot Out event in 2005, collected 3 awards in total: Best Sound Design for Hoodie, Best Cinematography and Best Film for Carrion.

Not only did the guys create history while shooting the films, they are also the first winning team ever to donated part of their prize package back to a promising local team, who will now be given the resources to make another short film.
