2007 Digi SPAA has received 18 entries in its annual competition for digital filmmakers. This builds upon former years which saw 13 entries in 2005 and 17 entries in 2006.
Filmmakers are embracing the concept of creating ‘Digi’ movies and this is being reflected in the increasing number of entries each year with entrants from across Australia and New Zealand. The style of filmmaking is extremely diverse with most genres tackled including mystery, thriller, romance, comedy, horror and serious drama.
Now in its third year, Digi SPAA is a proven forum from which aspiring filmmakers can launch their career. Finalists will be in the running to win great prizes including $15,000 cash and $20,000 worth of post production sponsored by Movie Network , plus a guaranteed screening on the Movie Extra channel and return trip to the prestigious Rotterdam Cinemart international feature film market.
The four Digi SPAA finalists will also be screened at this year’s SPAA Fringe conference on 26 and 27 October at the Chauvel Cinema in Sydney. From the four finalists, two grand finalists will be announced at SPAA Fringe Closing Night.
The Digi SPAA winner, will be announced at the SPAA Conference in November on the Gold Coast. The winner will be made available at the SPAA Conference to prominent international and local delegates, so they will have lots of exposure to the top dogs of the industry.
Digi SPAA is a creative project of the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) an industry body that represents Australian independent film and television producers on all issues affecting the business and creative aspects of screen production.
