Barney the Terrier wins Best Comedy at Toronto’s Commfest

Australian filmmaker Anny Slater has found success internationally recently impressing Canadian critics at Toronto’s Commfest International Film Festival with her short animation Barney the Terrier. Barney was awarded best comedy film at the festival and is the same character recently picked up by Sony Pictures TV International for distribution on mobile and by SBSTV for free to air television broadcast.

Barney the Terrier, written and directed by Slater, has been singled out from an international field to star at AMPAS sponsored festivals in Chicago, LA and Florida and comedy festivals in LA, Boston and Montréal. The character was also the subject of commissioned TVC’s in 2006 for the Austin Film Festival and the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival.

Barney brings together the fine creative team of Simon Kennedy as the voice of Barney and Stephen Blackburn on music.

Slater’s next project, a 30 minute dance film entitled The Seven Trials of Roman Pilgrim, had its opening sequence feted at the recent Palm Springs International Film Festival and will also screen at the upcoming Ft Lauderdale Film Festival and St John’s International Film Festival in Nova Scotia.
