Alex Russell in Oranges Don't Grow on Trees, produced by his production company Five Lip Films.
Goldstone's Alex Russell is joining Miles Teller and Josh Brolin in firefighter film Granite Mountain, directed by Oblivion and Tron: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski for Lionsgate.
Principal photography begins next week on the film, based on the true story of a group of firefighters known as the Granite Mountain hotshots who lost 19 members as they fought one of deadliest wildfires in Arizona history.
The film also stars Jeff Bridges and Taylor Kitsch.
Russell recently completed Greg McLean’s Jungle with Daniel Radcliffe in Queensland and Ivan Sen’s Goldstone, which opened the Sydney Film Festival on Wednesday night.
The Rockhampton native got his break in WA feature Wasted on the Young in 2010.
He's since starred in films such as Chronicle, Unbroken and Cut Snake, and has also launched his own production company Five Lip Films.
The company is currently in development on a feature with Jonathon Teplitzky attached and supported by Screen Australia.
Russell is repped by UTA, Mosaic and United Management in Australia.
