Nominations for the 2007 Inside Film Awards revealed

The nominations for the 2007 Inside Film Awards were announced this morning by Lisa Hensley, Michael Adams and Pia Miranda at Sydney’s Water Bar. Leading the way is Tony Ayres’ The Home Song Stories with nine nominations including The SHOWTIME IF Award for Best Feature Film, The Queensland Events Corporation IF Award for Best Actor (Joel Lok), The In Style IF Award for Best Actress (Joan Chen) and The Animal Logic IF Award for Best Director (Tony Ayres).
The Jammed, directed by Dee McLachlan, follows with six nominations including Best Feature Film and Best Actress (Veronica Sywak). The final film to receive a nod for Best Film is Michael James Rowland’s Lucky Miles, which received five nominations in total. Other films to watch out for at the Inside Film Awards on the 16 November include Noise with five nominations, Clubland with three and Boxing Day with two nominations.
Joel Lok from The Home Song Stories is the youngest person ever to be nominated for The Queensland Events Corporation IF Award for Best Actor. He is joined by Brendan Cowell for his performance in Noise and Richard Green for Boxing Day. The In Style Award for Best Actress sees nominations for Brenda Blethyn (Clubland), Joan Chen (The Home Song Stories) and Veronica Sywak (The Jammed). Tony Ayres, Matt Saville and Kriv Stenders have all been nominated for The Animal Logic IF Award for Best Director. Matt Saville is nominated for Noise, Tony Ayres for The Home Song Stories and Kriv Stenders for Boxing Day.
An Australian bomb disposal expert in Laos, disability and classical music are the focus of the three films nominated for the IF Award for Best Documentary. The nominated films are Bomb Harvest (directed by Kim Mordaunt), Unlikely Travellers (directed by Michael Noonan), and 4 (directed by Tim Slade). The nominees for the IF Award for Best Short Documentary are My Brother Vinnie (directed by Steven McGregor), Nigger Lovers (directed by Rhonda Hagan) and Flour, Sugar, Tea (directed by Lee Willis).
The Inside Film Awards have introduced a new award this year – the 3 IF Award for Best Music Video. Over 70 clips were eligible and the three nominees are Gotye’s Heart’s A Mess directed by Brendan Cook, Paul Kelly’s God Told Me To directed by Natasha Pincus and The Beautiful Girls’ I Thought About You directed by Kiku Ohe.
The nominees for The Holding Redlich IF Award for Best Short Film are Crocodile Dreaming (directed by Darlene Johnson), Nana (directed by Warwick Thornton) and Soul Mates (directed by Naomi Rossdeutscher). Additionally the nominees for The Cutting Edge IF Award for Best Short Animation are Sweet & Sour (directed by Eddie White), The Goat That Ate Time (directed by Lucinda Schreiber), and Richard (directed by Mick Elliott).
The three films nominated for Best Feature film (Lucky MilesThe Jammed and The Home Song Stories) are all also nominated for The Kodak IF Award for Best Cinematography, with Geoff Burton ACS, Peter Falk and Nigel Bluck being nominated respectively. Similarly, the situation is the same for The IF Award for Best Script with Dee McLachlan (The Jammed), Tony Ayres (The Home Song Stories) and Michael James Rowland and Helen Barnes (Lucky Miles) all receiving a nomination. The nominees for the IF Award for Best Music are Grant Innes McLachlan (The Jammed), Antony Partos (The Home Song Stories) and Bryony Marks (Noise).
The awards for Best Director, Best Editing, Best Production Design and Best Sound are decided on by film professionals with skills and expertise relating to each category. The nominees for the IF Award for Best Editing are Anne Carter and Dee McLachlan for The Jammed, Henry Dangar ASE for Lucky Miles and Geoff Hitchins for NoiseClubland (Nell Hanson), The Home Song Stories (Melinda Doring) and Lucky Miles (Pete Baxter) have all been nominated for The Production Book IF Award for Best Production Design and Andrew Neil, Liam Egan, Ian McLoughlin and Steven Jackson Vaughan (Clubland), Craig Carter, John Wilkinson, James Harvey and Andrew Neil (The Home Song Stories) and Emma Bortignon, Doron Kipen and Philippe Decrausaz (Noise) are the nominees for The Zig Zag Lane IF Award for Best Sound.
