The digital company responsible for providing services to projects such as MasterChef Australia, Australian Idol, Network TEN AFL and Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, has set up shop in Melbourne, and will create 65 new jobs for Victoria.
Information and Communication Technology Minister John Lenders said that Cutting Edge had expanded its renowned production and post-production film and television services into Melbourne bringing a valuable jobs boost for the state.
“Just last week Premier John Brumby announced that Victoria would host the 700 highly skilled jobs created at the National Broadband Network, cementing Melbourne’s claim as the ICT capital of Australia,” Mr Lenders said.
“Today’s announcement is another vote of confidence in Victoria with our highly skilled workforce, competitive tax system and supportive government.
“Cutting Edge’s decision to base its new office in Victoria is testament to the excellent skills and training on offer here and the expansion with 65 new staff will generate up to $17 million a year for the Victorian economy.”
Cutting Edge services include broadcast design, multimedia, web design, telecine, offline editing, online editing, visual effects, 2D and 3D animation, and sound design.
“Cutting Edge has moved into the state-of-the-art Melbourne Central City Studios in the Docklands digital media precinct while it finds a permanent home for the development of a fully-fledged digital production and post-production facility in Melbourne,” Mr Lenders said.
“Cutting Edge has an impressive reputation for its film and television projects which include Australia, Superman Returns, George of the Jungle 2, Beneath Hill 60, Daybreakers, Australian Big Brother, Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef Australia and several seasons of Australian Idol.
“The Brumby Labor Government works closely with industry and education sectors to ensure the next generation of technology graduates are job-ready and have the skills required by businesses like Cutting Edge.”
Cutting Edge CFO Matthew Lawson said that the calibre of talent in Victoria was a key part of the decision to open the company’s new facility in Melbourne.
“There’s serious talent in Melbourne in our sector and a strong culture of continually pushing the boundaries to succeed in global markets,” Mr Lawson said.
“Victoria presents us with a number of important advantages including being on the ground to access the growing number of television, sport and film productions being made here, access to highly-skilled staff and use of world-class infrastructure.
“The Victorian Government has been fundamental in making this investment a reality and enabling us to secure our new home in Melbourne.”
