International acclaim for Queensland productions

Arts Minister Rod Welford has congratulated three innovative Queensland productions which have been honoured with international film and television awards and nominations.
Mr Welford said children’s television programs Mortified and H2O: Just Add Water had received top industry award nominations, while Queensland digital entertainment company Hoodlum Interactive had taken out a prestigious award.
‘Brisbane-based Hoodlum Interactive took out a MIPCOM Award in Cannes last week for its Emmerdale Online Channel,’ Mr Welford said.
‘The MIPCOM Awards promote innovative creative and commercial development of new content formats over digital platforms.
Hoodlum is a very successful Queensland production company which is breaking new ground in the emerging digital environment, working on cutting edge projects with BBC and ITV.
‘I congratulate this local company on its international success.’
Mr Welford said Australian children’s television series Mortified had recently received an International Emmy Award nomination.
Mortified has been nominated in the Children & Young People category of the International Emmy Awards. The ceremony will be held in New York on 19 November,’ he said.
‘Funding from the PFTC helped to get Mortified off the ground in 2004-05 and the show was shot on location on the Gold Coast.
‘The show was co-produced by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation for the Nine Network and is now broadcast in Europe the UK, India, Canada and Ireland.’
Mr Welford said H20: Just Add Water was in the running for a UK Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award after being nominated in the ‘Best TV Show’ category.
‘It will go up against shows like Doctor Who in the Kid’s Choice Awards,’ he said.
H2O: Just Add Water also received State Government funding through the PFTC and was filmed entirely on the Gold Coast.’
