The nominations for the L’Oréal Paris 2007 AFI Awards were announced today with Palace Films’ releases a standout across the board.
Contenders include local real-life thriller, Forbidden Lie$, which received a total of 4 nominations out of 5 categories under its Non-Feature classification; as well as Razzle Dazzle and Clubland, which had a strong presence in 11 of the 13 Feature Film categories.
An intriguing look at the life and lies of fraudster Norma Khouri, Forbidden Lie$ opened to critical acclaim this year and continues to amaze viewers, ultimately asking them to cast their vote: Con, or Artist? Its nominations include Best Documentary, Best Direction in a Documentary, Best Editing in a Documentary and Best Sound in a Documentary. Forbidden Lie$ is currently screening in selected cinemas including the Chauvel (Sydney) and Cinema Nova (Melbourne).
Clubland cleared the floor, with celebrated performer, Brenda Blethyn and rising star Emma Booth receiving nominations for best Actress and best supporting Actress for their performances, which were directed by Cherie Nowlan, who received a nomination for best direction. Other nominations included Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actor, and the newly presented Macquarie Private Wealth AFI Award for Best Screenplay. Clubland will be available on DVD November 21.
Razzle Dazzle also shone through, receiving nominations for Best Original Music Score, Best Costume Design and Best Lead Actress, and is out now on DVD.
