Canberra Short Film Festival unveils semi-finalists

Press release from CSFF

The 16th Canberra Short Film Festival is a premier film event held annually that showcases some of the very best in Australian Short Filmmaking.
Recently, the offices of SilverSun Pictures – a major sponsor of the Canberra Short Film Festival – were inundated with creative talents and industry professionals from around Australia to celebrate the official announcement of 2011’s short filmmaking semi-finalists.

Guests at the Official Selection night were treated to a taste of the enormous talent that will be showcased at the Festival later this year, with small clips shown from each of the films that have been chosen.

“This year’s entries were very impressive. The quality of movies submitted to 2011 CSFF is outstanding and I hope we will encourage the filmmakers to keep working on such a high level. I am always amazed by applicants success with this difficult and demanding form. I would like to thank all the filmmakers who submitted to this year’s festival and wish them all the best with their future projects” said this year’s Festival Director Anna Koprowska.

“I have to say that I was deeply impressed by the work submitted, and especially with the Nation School Entries. It was a really tight competition” – Official Selection Judge, Jace Martin

All the films that have made the Official Selection list will be shown to both the local communities of Canberra and surrounding regions, as well as many interstate guests over several screenings at Dendy Cinemas in mid-September.

With a much-needed change to the entry categories happening this year, filmmakers were matched against other filmmakers at the same or similar experience levels to themselves. A fairer acknowledgement of each filmmaker’s talents was the resulting outcome for the preliminary judges this year and hopefully for the final judging stages over the festival weekend.

The screenings at Dendy will take place as follows:

Opening Night: Special Opening Night Film + Practising category from 6pm on Friday 16th September – audience votes in the People’s Choice Awards.
National Schools, Grass –Roots and Emerging from 5pm on Saturday 17th September – audience votes in the People’s Choice Awards.
Finals Night, from 5 pm on Sunday 18th September, will see the three finalists’ films from each category re-screened, followed by the Judges’ and People’s Choice Awards before a yet to be named location change for the After Party celebrations.

More information on the Canberra Short Film Festival and its screenings can be found at this year’s website.

Tickets for all screenings will go on sale at Dendy Cinemas very soon.
