ABC TV has consolidated its Children’s television department with the announcement of two new key appointments – Head of Programming & Acquisitions and a Commissioning and Development Editor.
Barbara Uecker becomes Head of Programming and Acquisitions – Children’s TV on April 1.
She is an internationally respected children’s broadcaster, who helped establish the German public broadcasting’s children’s TV channel KI.KA.
Barbara started with KI.KA as the Commissioning Editor of Acquisitions and Co-Production, and then became its Deputy Head in 2000.
Well known in the international production community, Barbara has also worked for Germany’s ARD affiliate Sender Freies Berlin in the Family TV Department, producing programs for children, teenagers and family audiences.
In 2005, she became Head of Family, Education & Nature TV Programs for ARD’s affiliate Hessischer Rundfunk.
Carla de Jong, an award-winning children’s television producer, joins ABC TV as Commissioning and Development Editor, Children’s TV on March 10.
Carla is an Australian who has spent the last two years in the UK working for BBC Children’s channels CBBC and CBeebies. She has also played a key role in securing international co-production and co-development opportunities for the BBC’s Children’s News Factual and Learning Department.
Previously, Carla produced a number of award-winning programs for Australia’s Network Ten including Totally Wild and the children’s science series SCOPE.
Tim Brooke-Hunt, the Executive Head of Children’s for ABC TV said he was thrilled to appoint two such exceptional executives to these key positions and looks forward to working with both of them to further enhance the strong leadership position enjoyed by ABC TV in children’s broadcasting in Australia.
