The 2013 St.George OpenAir Cinema program has been released, revealing an extraordinary line up of films on Sydney Harbour, including 14 premiere and preview titles, major Christmas and New Year releases and a selection of the best art-house films of 2012.
Tickets to Sydney's most sought after summer event go on sale at 9.00am on Thursday 13 December at www.stgeorgeopenair.com.au. Last year 13 films and over 28,000 tickets sold out within the first 30 minutes of advance sales, so don't miss out!
The 2013 season includes the latest works from leading directors including Joe Wright (the lavish ANNA KARENINA – which will premiere on the opening night of the 2013 season), Quentin Tarantino (the delicious Spaghetti Western homage DJANGO UNCHAINED), Judd Apatow (the riotous and close to the bone THIS IS 40), Steven Spielberg (fascinating bio-drama LINCOLN), and Lee Daniels (THE PAPERBOY, starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack).
Running from 10 January to 16 February this summer's program is filled with a veritable feast of cinema genres. Romantic highlights include a special preview screening of I GIVE IT A YEAR, a hilarious saga of opposites who attract, starring Rose Byrne, Rafe Spall, Anna Faris & Simon Baker, a preview of SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, directed by David O'Russell and featuring an exceptional cast; Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver, and the 2013 Valentine's day pick, TO ROME WITH LOVE directed by Woody Allen and starring, Penélope Cruz, Alec Baldwin & Ellen Page.
The 2013 program also brings powerful dramas to the big screen on the harbour, including Tom Hooper's LES MISÉRABLES, starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, Ang Lee's beautiful adaptation of the bestselling novel LIFE OF PI, the premiere of THE IMPOSSIBLE starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, along with the premieres of the slick crime dramas THE SWEENEY, directed by Nick Love and starring Ray Winstone and Ben Drew and BROKEN CITY directed by Allen Hughes and starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Each night by 8pm over 1000 patrons fill the event's bar and restaurant on the harbour edge, offering spectacular views that span the city skyline. Hive Catering will provide a delectable summer menu at the Good Food restaurant, which is complemented by an exceptional wine, beer and cocktail list at the event's Chandon Bar. At nightfall sit back, relax and enjoy the grandstand seating and surround sound, as the giant 350 square metre screen rises above the water, providing a truly extraordinary film experience.
