Queensland Writers Centre launches new program to develop emerging screenwriters

Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) is proud to launch Queensland Script House, a new program devoted to the craft and professional development of emerging Queensland screen and television writers.

Across three course strands, Queensland Script House will help writers of film, television and documentary identify and build their career pathways in the state’s growing screen industry. In Screen Play, writers will have the opportunity to network with industry creatives and be inspired by a key note speaker. In the Film, Television and Documentary Clinics, writers will intensely develop a screenplay or series with the help of Duncan Thompson (script editor of Animal Kingdom, The Black Balloon), Anthony Mullins (Slide, Spooks Interactive) or Chris Carroll (ABBA: Bang a Boomerang). In the Film or Television Labs, filmmakers will develop their knowledge of the business side of the industry, from creating a business plan, to pitching, rights and licensing and funding opportunities.

QWC has been leading the charge for Queensland writers and writing for the past 24 years, and is thrilled to able to extend its services, programs and support to writers working in visual mediums.

“QWC welcomes a broad and diverse range of writers into our vibrant community,” says Meg Vann, CEO of QWC. “We are proud to now offer specific training in the art and business of screenwriting, with the aim of fostering the great culture of screen-based storytelling in Queensland. It will be so exciting to see the professional skills and production networks develop for the author and screenwriter communities in the Queensland Script House.”

This project acknowledges the financial assistance and support of Screen Queensland and Screen Australia in its delivery.
